RE: Auto-Protect is disabled because registration of the virus databases failed. Posted Mar 04, PM. Cross reference your case number with 2. Get it referenced on defect Posted Mar 11, AM. Posted Mar 12, PM. Posted Mar 25, PM. Posted Mar 26, AM. I still consider the problem to be quite worrisome as there could be more clients out there with their auto-protect disabled. Has anyone gotten anything helpful from Symantec regarding this issue? We're running Corporate Edition Posted Jun 02, PM.
First 3 are concerns about recovery, and the 4th on prevention 1 Why is this only a warning in the Event Log? Posted Jun 23, PM. Posted Jul 01, AM. May not seem like much but I would really like to know how to solve this auto-protect issue so I don't have to rely on the end user noticing this problem and then reporting it. Also, how can I get the SSC to alert me when auto-protect craps out?
Where is the fix for this please? Posted Jul 23, AM. Hi, As a possible work around, try deleting everything in the virusdefs folder take a back up please run the liveudpate and click on fix in SEP once the defs are updated. Hope this helps. Hope this helps , good day. IF you have uninstalled everything, scanned with other AVs and found nothing Have you tried calling Symantec support?
I've had that happen too and I tracked it down to a corrupted Virus Definition File, being as though you've done the clean uninstall method, try to install one Parent Server but configure it to not download any definition updates, then install and connect one client to it should moan about the definitions being more than 30 days old and see if the Auto Protect Problem happens Bobster's suggestion looks to be the closest one, especially since they are down across the board now.
I'm running EndPoint now, but doesn't That was my first thought as well, but it has been a couple weeks since the problem started and there have been several def updates since then. I need to correct my earlier post. The client machine shows the Auto Protect as disabled, but if I look at the client on the server and check the Auto Protect status, it shows as enabled and I can watch it scan files.
I have looked at the log files for several different clients to see if anything seems to stand out, but everything is normal. So far the only real problem is that the client for some reason thinks Auto Protect is disabled when its not.
Very strange. I wonder if there was a recent update to the scan engine files. I think I will try Bobsters suggestion. Will let you know. I had a similar issue in version 11 and found out that the default IIS website had been disabled by another admin. Click Here to join Tek-Tips and talk with other members! Already a Member? Since recently I do get this pop-up box in the lower right hand corner saying: "Symantec Antivirus Auto Protect is Disabled". It pops up and disappears after 5 seconds or so. When I check, the auto protect is still running.
I have seen report of this at other places on the web, but have not found te cause and a solution. You may have a virus w I checked and I don't have this virus. But I am a strong believer in the web as a place where people help eachother without commercial intent However, the option to "Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection" from the tray icon is still available because you have not locked all features in the policies.
When the user clicks Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection, it disables all modules that you have not locked in policy; however, it does not disable the policies which you have locked.
In the SEP user interface, in the Status area, the disabled features appear, and you can verify which features you have not yet locked.
