Connecting vista computer xp network printer

Laptop won't hook up to wireless network. Vista establishing a direct dial-up connections. If it matters The wireless connection is called OurWirelessNetwork and is encrypted. It was set up on the desktop with advice given here. The laptop found the connection and once I entered the encryption key, all was good as far as connecting to the internet. There are shared directorys on the desktop's C drive and the printer is shared and named printer.

Can you access Screen below on Vista? I just went thru this exact almost procedure, getting my new Vista desktop to network with our Win xp computer with printer. Not so easy, but here are the instructions which work:. That's it. To check for the exact host computer name, go to the host computer, my computer, and a screen will come up with it's official name, use it, case sensitive.

For printer name, go to host computer, printers area thru the control panel, rt. A sharing tab will show, click it, the exact name for the shared printer will show, again use it case sensitive. A little more info. I needed to download new Vista drivers for the printer for my computer before doing the above. It never worked for my boss and our LAN manager.

They're both computer savvy. Vista and XP do not play happily together They uninstalled Vista and won't use it until it's fixed. Indem Sie weiterhin auf der Website surfen bzw. Mehr erfahren. Apologies if you consider that I am stating the obvious. Sharing a printer being hosted by a computer running 32 bit Vista or XP with a computer running 64 bit Vista is not obvious, because if you use the above method, it will not work.

So how? First, you need to know the name of the computer which hosts the printer, and the name of the printer to be shared.

Write down the name that you see here because this is the computer name. Write down the name that you see here because this is the printer name. The printer will be added, and you should be able to print a test page. Was this reply helpful?

Any suggestions? Posted 05 July - PM. Thank you all for this information. Even with the information provided on this thread, I still had to do more research and have solved my similar issues. First, I too have in the house an XP machine and a Vista laptop. I did indeed install the LLTD and that did not solve the problem. I have an Epson printer and followed the general information on the driver install on the Vista machine and plugging in the printer to the Vista laptop to complete the driver install.

That too did not work. It just had to be a Firewall issue. I'm using McAfee and that in itself is a pain to figure out. Did not make sense. That did the trick. Vista machine now sees and can access all the XP. Thank you all again for this great thread and leading me to solve this issue. Posted 02 September - PM. I've followed the original post's walk-through to the letter, but when I get to step seven, it tells me it cannot find that port. The workgroups are the same, I think, but I'm so illiterate about networking that I'm not even sure what information I need to give for anyone here to come back with a meaningful reply. I have the computers plugged into a hub I live at a Dorm ; they can all play LAN video-games together just fine -- so I know the computers can see each other on some level.

Posted 11 October - AM. I get ot step 7 and it comes up saying "access denied" even though my printer is set up for sharing with everyone on my xp pc. Any ideas?

The network is just a workgroup. I have other XP computers that don't have any problem connecting to the printer. Actually, I have two printers that work fine on the XP computers but I can't get the Vista machine to connect to either printer. Monday, September 21, PM. Hi, Thanks for the post.
