In the past two decades, Black Stone Cherry has set a new standard for Southern rock, revitalizing the tradition with burly riffs and stirring rock hooks. The four-piece band have blazed their own way in establishing a legacy. The guys went in with 4 songs, wrote new songs, and recorded some beloved unreleased favorites.
It really inspired us when it came to writing the new record. When we started writing the new songs they just had this natural blues slant and that sense of integrity and authenticity. It was so cool and it just felt so natural. Wells loves the line and loves the link between the band and its extended family. It has that big solo and it builds into something very special.
Family is an integral part of how we live our lives and how we run our business. The album title says it all. We had the song written first and then it became clear it had to be the title. It makes touring fun and it makes getting through the more difficult days much easier. It makes a huge difference. The real clincher of this song, as well as with "Rollin' On," is the use of a B-3 organ from guest artist Reece Wynans.
It has all the charm of nostalgia, without being boring or forced. There's no doubt that Black Stone Cherry has talent, and they are onto something. Black Stone Cherry proves the band is diverse in their influences and goals. The Southern rock twist and the occasional Merle Haggard reference are a really solid start, but at times, the album comes across as a little too generic for what the band is capable of.
