Rules for card game war

There may not be much skill involved — but it sure is a fun game of cards! Especially if cards are a hobby of yours :. Similar to a game of Slapjack — You want to collect all of the cards!

Once one player has collected all the cards from the deck, they win the game of War. Each player plays a card and collects the cards played for the round depending on the rules of the game.

You start playing War by dealing each player an equal amount of cards until the deck is completely given out. A player will win the game of War by rounding up all of the cards within the deck, leaving the other player with none. However, someone will be victorious at some point. The deck is divided evenly, with each player receiving 26 cards, dealt one at a time, face down. Anyone may deal first. Each player places their stack of cards face down, in front of them. Each player turns up a card at the same time and the player with the higher card takes both cards and puts them, face down, on the bottom of his stack.

If the cards are the same rank, it is War. Each player turns up one card face down and one card face up. The player with the higher cards takes both piles six cards. If the turned-up cards are again the same rank, each player places another card face down and turns another card face up. Players keep their cards in front of them, face down. Each player simultaneously turns over their top card. The higher card wins the pair; the winning player takes both cards and puts them at the bottom of their face-down pile.

Ace is high card; 2 is low card. In the event of a tie, the players have a "war. The player with the higher of these cards takes all 10 cards which are now in the middle. If these two cards are also a tie, additional cards are turned face-up, one at a time, until one player wins; that player takes the entire set of cards. The first player to win the entire deck of cards is the winner. Alternatively, because winning the entire deck can take a long time, the first player to win three wars is the winner.

This simple variant, designed by Erik Arneson , adds some decision-making to the game. Once a card is played you lose the opportunity to steal, however, you may choose to play and not steal.

You may choose to play if you have a greater opportunity of winning a war rather than stealing a small pile. During War, the three cards played face down can not be looked at or used to steal a pile. However, the fourth card can be used to steal. If the face-down pile runs dry, the face-up pile shall be shuffled and used to continue the game.

If a player runs out of cards during War they automatically lose the game. For example, if 2 or more players flip an 8, place 7 cards face-down in the war, and the eighth face-up. In this variation all face cards have a value of 10, so during a war 9 cards should be placed face-down and the tenth face-up.
